¿What to do? Exploring Camaguey
The city of Camaguey, situated practically in the geographical centre of the province and 535 km to the East of the city of Havana, has important tourist attractions and is well worth visiting. The city, founded in 1514, is the capital of the province of the same name.

Santa Lucía Beach is situated 110 Km from the city of Camagüey, on the far western side of the northern coast of the province; an hour and a half by road.
Located to the south of the Old Bahama Channel, in the middle of a semi-desolate, natural, virgin, paradisiacal environment. It has 20 Km of sandy beaches of coral origin. The average width of the strip of sun sand is 15 metres. Its waters are very calm and ideal for water sports, surface fishing, underwater photo hunting and bathing. The bathing areas are very calm, crystal clear and have sandy beds.

Santa Lucía and its Coral Reef
Santa Lucía has an extensive coral reef, the second largest on the planet after the Australian reef, and the largest in the Western Hemisphere; turning it into a giant swimming pool. It is part of the reef to the north of the Cuban archipelago, which ranges from Punta de Hicacos (Varardero) to beyond the western limit of the province of Camaguey. Opposite the beach and at distances that range from between 200 and 1500 metres, an original sight can be seen: A large strip of coral breaking the waves as if it were another shoreline.

Another of the virtues of Santa Lucía is that it has conserved the largest population of pink flamingos in the Caribbean in the surrounding areas and cays close by.
The pink colour of the flamingos, the varying shades of blue of the sky and the sea, the bright green of the abundant surrounding vegetation, and the different skin tones of the thousands of visitors that arrive here every year, make up a special polychrome under the influence of the sun of Santa Lucía.

Food & Beverages

The traditional cuisine of Camagüey is rich and full of imagination. Many people, not only chefs, defend the preservation of the heritage and culinary customs of the old Príncipe Port, its dishes and food, which, like special ingredients, have always flavoured the cultural identity of Camagüey.
