Inland, Ciego de Ávila also has a lot to offer visitors. In the area between Cayo Coco and the capital city, founded in 1840, we can mention the Dutch settlement of Turiguanó, built at the beginning of the 1960's as a settlement for the stockbreeding community, and La Redonda lagoon (4.5 km2), where an international trout-fishing centre is in operation, and La Leche lagoon (67 km2), annual site of the traditional Morón water carnival and recently included among the locations for the Formula T-1 world speedboat championships.
The Ciudad del Gallo, as the town of Morón is popularly known, is the closest to Los Jardines del Rey. In its centre it conserves buildings of high architectonic and urban development value and in the surroundings there are remains of the military forts built from there up to Júcaro, a defence system built in the second half of the 19th century by the Spanish Army in an attempt to prevent the passage of the Cuban Liberation Army in the invasion from East to West and considered one of the most important works of military engineering of Latin America.
Activities
Also in the surroundings of the large swamps and lagoons to the north of Morón, as well as around Cunagua Hill, there are some 40 areas for hunting bird species, among which the Aguachales de Falla, Chicola, Canal La Yana and Puente Largo are the most well-known. In this last one, trout fishing is also available, an activity which is also carried out at the Liberación reservoir, in the town of Florencia, an area of great natural beauty located in this province.
Food & Beverages
Cuban cuisine is simple and could be said to be country fare. The dishes are not very hot and spicy at all. The meat, in general, is well done and the fried food slightly oily. There is no olive oil. The national dish is the Congri, a mixture of onion, white rice, black beans and streaky bacon, all fried together.

Diving.
