The Los Lobos Nature Reserve is a small island of some 4.5 Km2 located almost 2 Km to the north-east of Fuerteventura itself. The stretch of water that separates the two is called El Río, in the Bocaina Straits, the depth of which never exceeds 10 metres. The island can clearly be seen from Corralejo.

With such beautiful natural phenomena as the Valles y Cuchillos de Sotavento, Vega de Tetir was once the cereal crop hub of the island. Through its traditional architecture, the town has preserved the unquestionable aura of rural Fuerteventura.

Every second Sunday of the month in Vega de Tetir, a Traditional Craftwork Market is held where it is possible to discover local produce, traditional arts and crafts, cultural events, camel rides and a wide range of other activities.

The cuisine of the Canary Islands is typically Mediterranean but with its own unique character. Good use is made of local agricultural and livestock resources with less focus placed on the fattier foods. One of the great legacies of the original population is the `gofio¿; basically toasted wheat and corn flour with renowned dietary values. It is cooked with milk, fish stock or mixed with water and salt. Special mention should also be made of the local cheeses, several of which are highly-reputable and have won national and international awards.

Leisure activities in Fuerteventura are highly-varied because, despite it being a relatively small island, there is a wide range of options on offer here. From water sports like windsurfing, kitesurfing or diving to a peaceful afternoon at the cinema, hiking trails through incredible landscapes or a visit to one of the theme parks on the island.
