Going shopping in the souk
To the north and east of Jemaa el-Fna Square lies a labyrinth of narrow streets where tourists and locals go shopping among stalls selling food, clothing, handicrafts, and local specialties. The souk is Marrakech’s premier shopping district, and although it may seem chaotic, the truth is that its shops and street stalls are organized by trade. Every traditional trade has its own designated space in this bustling part of the city, where you absolutely must be a skilled haggler to get the best prices.
Dinner at Yamaa el Fna night market
The most important spot in downtown Marrakech is this central square, which radiates energy to every corner of the city. Although Jemaa el-Fna is bustling at any time of day, it’s after sunset that it truly shines in all its splendor. Here you’ll find snake charmers, musicians, and impromptu performances—and, above all, a wide variety of culinary delights that add a spicy touch to the end of the day.
Relax in a hammam
What is a luxury for many Westerners, is part of everyday life in Moroccan culture. Hammams are baths whose origins date back to Roman baths and are not only used as a place for washing and relaxation but as a meeting point among the locals. Today, in Marrakech, there are public hammams and others of a more touristic nature that, inspired by the traditional essence, offer massages and additional skin care treatments.
