Details of
Talavera de la Reina, Toledo

As a tourist destination, Talavera de la Reina is a whole box of surprises. The great potential of this town, located just over an hour and a half from Madrid, has not yet been fully exploited and it seems that little could be expected. However, it is one of those picturesque corners of the plateau which is a must-visit.

What to do in Talavera de la Reina

Go for a walk through the Jardines del Prado (Prado Gardens)

The setting of the Marian shrine of Nuestra Señora del Prado is characterised by elegant gardens with French influence that bring life and colour to the heart of the city. The Jardines del Prado date from the eighteenth century and from their origin they were an important reference in the social and cultural life of the people of Talavera de la Reina. Sculptures, fountains, ponds and eye-catching examples of the traditional pottery of these lands await you among their leafy avenues to show you the most relaxing side of the city.

Enjoy the sunset at Puente Viejo (the Old Bridge)

The city centre of Talavera de la Reina is crossed by the Tagus River and a total of four bridges distributed in its path throughout the city serve to connect both banks. These elements of the architectural landscape of Talavera are also a great place to enjoy the sunset and to contemplate from the two banks a city that seems to transform every day as the sun sets. The Puente Viejo or Puente de Santa Catalina (Santa Catalina Bridge) is the oldest of all and its foundation dates back to the Roman period.

Visit the Museo de Cerámica Ruíz de Luna (Ruíz de Luna Pottery Museum)

Both the continent and the content are relevant. The renowned Talavera de la Reina pottery tradition is the leading feature of this museum's collections, located in an important convent complex from the eighteenth century belonging to the Order of Augustinian Recollects. The interior of the building is dedicated to the productions of tiles and pottery of Talavera between the sixteenth and twentieth centuries, with some of the most prestigious compositions from the workshops of Nuestra Señora del Prado.
